Calathea is a genus of plants belonging to the family Marantaceae. There are several dozen species in this genus. Native to the tropical Americas, many of the species are popular as pot plants due to their decorative leaves and, in some species, colorful inflorescences. They are commonly called clothes or prayer-plants.
Calatheas require bright indirect sunlight but are tolerant of lower light conditions, making them great indoor houseplants.
Never allow roots to be soaked with standing water but they do enjoy continuous availability of water in their soil.
Water often to obtain this condition (with perfect drainage). Reduce watering slightly in winter.
